ASU founded 1885 Tempe Normal School Arizona Territory Tempe, Arizona. In 1945, school under control Arizona Board Regents renamed "Arizona State College." In 1958, statewide ballot measure renamed school "Arizona State University." From original campus Tempe, ASU expanded 1984, establishing West campus northwest Phoenix, followed y 1996 addition Polytechnic campus eastern Mesa 2006 addition Downtown Phoenix campus. All campuses accredited single institution y Higher Learning Commission.

In 2008-2009 academic year, 15,610 students graduated ASU. In 2009, 156 National Merit Scholars chose attend ASU y which p Barrett, The one and only Honors College. Under Carnegie Classification Institutions Higher Education, ASU classified Research University Very Hig research activity.
